    I have been very fortunate that I have never suffered with depression. However, I have come to realize that it is a huge problem that affects millions of people all over the world. The good news is that depression self help is available so you do not have to get even more depressed by the thought that your only hope of overcoming this condition is to sedate yourself with harmful drugs.

    Depression is defined in many ways and here are some of its symptoms to think about and see if what you are experiencing matches any of these;

     

    1. Sad feelings of gloom and inadequacy

    2. Pessimistic view of your life

    3. Aversion to activity

    4. Low mood

    5. Feelings of guilt or low self worth

    6. Loss of interest in just about everything, including life

    7. Low energy

    While these are some of the symptoms of depression I am sure there are others. Also these symptoms are not exclusive to depression as you will find these with other health conditions as well. Depression occurs in people of all genders, ages, and backgrounds.

    Severe depression leads to suicide in hundreds of thousands of people every year so in order to make sure that you do not become a statistic of depression start using the depression self help strategies we will look at here.

     

    1. Exercise – daily exercise is so good for you, both your mind and your body. It helps you to feel better about yourself. It also increases your energy levels and can boost your mood.

    2. Socialize – when you are depressed you have a tendency to isolate yourself form family and friends. This is the worst thing you can do to yourself so, as hard as it may be, make yourself socialize. Share what you’re going through with the people you love and trust. Ask them for the help and support you need. These relationships can get you through this tough time.

    3. Balanced Diet – eat healthily with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid processed and junk foods as much as possible.

    4. Rest and Relaxation – take a little time out each day for rest and relaxation. Be sure to get 8 hours sleep each night.

    5. Positive Mental Focus – clear your mind of the negative thoughts inside and replace with positive thoughts by focusing on the good in your life egs. Family and friends, good health, roof over your head and meals every day.

    6. Sunlight – a little exposure to sunshine each day can help to boost your mood.

    7. Manage Stress – stress very often can lead to depression so if you are susceptible to depression you need to be especially careful to manage your stress levels.

    9. Relaxation Techniques – yoga, deep breathing and meditation are a few effective relaxation techniques you can use.

    You need to address your depression self help one day at a time. Do positive things for yourself each day as well as work on your thoughts. Focus on the good things or blessings in your life and you will find that eventually you are no longer depressed and, in fact have a positive outlook on your life. Reward yourself for your accomplishments.

    It has been proven that your mind is a powerful tool and you have the power to determine what goes into your mind. Here is a paragraph that I believe came from the bible, although I am not sure. I read it every day because it makes so much sense and is very powerful. It also helps me to stay positive.

     

    Watch your thoughts, your thoughts become your words.

    Watch your words, your words become your actions,

    Watch your actions, your actions become your habits

    Watch your habits, your habits become your character,

    Watch your character, your character becomes your destiny.”

     

    You do not have to go the drugged up way to cope with depression. Start today using the strategies mentioned above so that you can regain control of your life by using depression self help instead of prescription drugs.
