• Severe Sunburn

If you have gone out and got yourself a severe sunburn then, most likely, you are in some pain and are looking for a treatment for sunburn. Here we will look at what to do for sunburn so that you can start getting some relief and help your skin to heal.

With severe sunburn you may find that you have blistering on your skin so you have to be careful what treatment for sunburn you use in this case. A Note of Caution: if you have a sunburn that has blisters or has open sores be sure not to cover it with an ointment, oil, salve or butter, because it will make the area susceptible to infection.

Ideally, in future, you should wear sun protection clothing, or apply your sunscreen more often, or limit your exposure to the sun so that you do not get another severe sunburn.

Be sure to invest in a natural sunscreen, as the regular sunscreen you find in almost every store, contains toxic chemicals that can cause cancer so should be avoided at all cost. Natural sunscreen tends to cost more but can help protect your health in the long run.

Another tip is to apply your sunscreen generously about 20 minutes prior to exposure to the sun to allow it to sink in to better protect your skin. Don’t forget to protect your lips, hands, ears, and the back of your neck. Reapply as necessary after swimming or perspiring heavily.

A hat is also another very useful sun protection tool. Visit Sun Protection Clothing for more choices in UPF Clothing to protect you and your loved ones.

The long term effects of sunburn are wrinkling skin and potentially skin cancer. Especially those with fair complexions are susceptible to these conditions as a result of over-exposure to the sun.

Baking soda, generously applied to tepid bath water, 1 cup white vinegar into your tub with cool water, Aveeno bath Treatment, avoid soap as this dries the skin.

    4. Aloe – Aloe is very effective in relieving pain and inflammation.

    5. Cucumber – cucumber slices are cool and will help soothe the burned area

    6. Ice Pack or bag of Frozen Peas – wrap in a towel and apply to your skin

    7. Drink liquids – the fact that you are suffering with a severe sunburn probably also means that you are somewhat dehydrated so be sure to consume a lot of liquids, preferably cold water to rehydrate your body.
