• Sinus Infection (Sinusitis/Rhinosinusitis)

Sinus infections also known as Sinusitis (aka Rhinosinusitis) are a very common problem with millions of people worldwide suffering with this condition. If you are one of those who suffer with this condition then what you need is a sinus infection treatment. Here we will take a look at home remedies for sinus infection to help you to start feeling and getting better quickly.

    First let’s look at what causes sinus infections. It is helpful to know what causes this condition so that, where possible, you can avoid these or know that you need to be proactive when experiencing any of these other conditions that could trigger a sinus infection;

    1. Weakened immune system – while not actually a cause of sinus infections, you get the sinus infection or sinusitis due to the fact that your immune system is compromised.

    2. Antibiotics – antibiotics kill off bad bacteria but they also kill of the good bacteria which our bodies require to function normally.

    3. Allergens – dust etc.

    4. Pollutants

    5. Bacteria

    6. Fungi

    7. Common cold

    8. Influenza (Flu)

    9. Acid Reflux

    10. Asthma

What are the symptoms you are likely to experience when you have sinusitis?

    1. Headache
    2. Trouble breathing through your nose
    3. Pain behind your eyes
    4. Nasal discharge
    5. Post nasal drip
    6. Sinus congestion
    7. Pain in your cheeks
    8. Pain in your ears

One often recommended of the best home remedies for sinus infection is inhaling steam using a Neti Pot. However, this can also be done simply by boiling water in a pot and pouring the steaming water into a bowl then holding your face over the steam (be cautious not to get too close and burn yourself).

    Aura Cacia Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Some add a vapor rub to the water and others would suggest adding Eucalyptus oil to make the experience more pleasurable.

    Here are some more sinus infection remedies both for sinus infection treatment and prevention;

    1. Apple Cider Vinegar – make a mixture of apple cider vinegar, warm water and honey ( to help it taste better. If you can handle it without the honey then do so.) and drink this a few times a day until the infection is gone. Some recommend 2 tablespoons mixed into an 8oz glass of water 3 times a day. If you cannot handle that much take as much as you can. Some love the taste of this concoction and others not so much.

    2. Avoid damp and cold places

    3. Peppermint – The anti-inflammatory properties of peppermint help to calm your mucous membranes. You may drink a peppermint tea or steep the peppermint and breathe in the steam as you could with the eucalyptus.. The scent of peppermint helps to ease your breathing when you inhale it..

    4. Avoid common black mold – commonly found in houses in damp and moist areas.

    5. Hydration – drink lots of water and hot teas

    6. Vitamins – Vitamin C and zinc usually help to lessen the duration of colds as well as to minimize the symptoms. Many sinus infections come from lingering colds so by fighting your cold early, you can help prevent getting a sinus infection.

    C and Zinc Lozenges

    7. Echinacea – Echinacea helps boost the immune system and makes it function better. It has been known to kill some viruses of the respiratory system.

    ECHINACEA 400 mg.-400 mg.-200-Rapid Release Capsules

    8. Nasal irrigation – as mentioned above, using essential oils like eucalyptus. Eucalyptus also has antiseptic properties and can help shrink swollen tissues such as swollen sinus passages.

    9. ImmunityPlus™ – Provides complete and effective immune system support

    Here are some foods that may bring on sinus infections so you should stay away from these;

Dairy products, sugar, and wheat products.

You want to maintain a diet rich in antioxidants, especially fresh, dark-colored fruits and vegetables, which may help strengthen the immune system.

    1. Hi Chris,
Thank you for what you are doing.
I passed your site onto other family members.
Sadly many people are learning the hard way.
If enough people pass on the easier more effective ways perhaps things
      will turn around.

I was surprised you did not have anything under Sinus. (Didn’t see the Sinus Infection post initially but found it afterward.)

      My experience:

I battled sinus infections continuously. Many people I know do also.
I went to an ENT for years. Sadly the meds made me sicker than the
      sinus infection. Horrible side effects.

Finally the doc told me he only had one last thing we could try.

      Sinus infection:
Domboro a med you ask the pharmacist for. This med basically contains
salt water and vinegar. I was amazed years of meds and infections. Only surgery or more meds…then this was the last effort. Why was it not the first?

Since then I make my own saline and vinegar mix. Use a qtip and apply to the membranes in the back of my nose…it fells like it burns but it works.

I then use neosporin or similar antibiotic ointment. It cures within a day.

Swimming in salt water also brings relief if you can stand the feeling your nose is being cut off.

      Colds:
My grandmother’s remedy. Cut a lemon in half. Squeeze juice into a quart of water. Bring to a lower simmer…do not boil. Steep for five minutes.
Put some of the liquid in a cup. set aside. While still steaming carefully place pan on hot pad. Place towel over head above pan….breath in until you can not stand it. Your nose will begin to run like a faucet. Come out from under the towel. Breath the air for a bit and drink the warm lemon water…add honey or sugar if needed. Then repeat the process. Do only twice. This will help. Vics vapor rub or other eucalyptus ointment will help to open passages also.

I have also been told Elderberry juice helps to keep virus’ from replicating. I mix it with orange juice it really seems to shorten illness
      time

Cherry juice or bark is great when it comes to cough suppressing.

I hope this helps in your fight for natural cures.
Thank you for fighting the good fight so others do not have to suffer
